Poggio al Tesoro lies in Bolgheri, once the land of the Etruscan civilization and today one of the most
fascinating and renowned areas of Tuscany. Nearby stands the medieval town of Castagneto Carducci,
with the monumental Castello della Gherardesca, and the famous Tyrrhenian beaches of Marina di
Castagneto and Marina di Bibbona. From San Guido, along the Viale dei Cipressi, immortalized in
the verses of Carducci (“Bei cipressetti, cipressetti miei, fedeli amici d’un tempo migliore”), one reaches
the fortified village of Bolgheri. In 2001, captivated by the Bolgheri landscape, Marilisa Allegrini
founded Poggio al Tesoro here. Today, it is one of the largest estates in the area, with land stretching
partly at the foot of the hills and partly close to the coastline. Covering 100 hectares, of which 70 are
planted with vines, the estate is divided into four different properties: Via Bolgherese, Chiesina di San
Giuseppe, Le Sondraie and Valle di Cerbaia. The most important vineyards are those along the Strada
Bolgherese and in Le Sondraie. The Bolgherese area, known locally as Soprastrada, is considered the
cradle of Bolgheri’s finest wines, while Le Sondraie, with its 50 hectares, is the largest single holding of
the estate. Poggio al Tesoro’s production is focused on a range of wines: Solosole, Cassiopea, Mediterra,
Seggio, Sondraia, Sondraia Bianco, Dedicato a Walter, and Teos.
