Giovanni Allegrini, a true legend of Valpolicella, was a great lover of Recioto. His children Walter, Marilisa and Franco, have dedicated this wine to their father. A great innovator in his field, this was the wine by which Giovanni judged all the winemakers in his day. Recioto is one of the oldest wines in the world, tracing its roots back to Roman times. It is a unique, sweet wine and is ideal for contemplative moments as well as to celebrate life’s greatest occasions. Today, it is recognised as the noble ‘ancestor’ of Amarone.

The best grapes from the highest vineyards are harvested and left to partially dry in the drying facility for about 5 months. After gentle pressing, the wine is fermented in steel tanks and aged in new oak barriques for 14 months, aged in large barrels for a further 2 months and then in the bottle for about 10 months.

A sweet wine with a deep ruby red colour. It has an extremely broad and varied range of aromas, with hints of dried fruit and blackberry jam, accompanied by spices, especially cloves and cinnamon, and a hint of violets. It charms with its incredible freshness, which sets it apart from every other raisined-grape style of wine.

Sweet pastries such as shortbread, cantucci biscuits, sbrisolona (a typical local pastry-cake) and cakes and puddings made with bitter chocolate. It is also pairs very nicely with gorgonzola. Serve at 14°C and uncork one hour before serving.
